Disaster relief giving exceeds $1 million

JACKSONVILLE (FBC) — Though the “ravages” of four hurricanes have spurred a wounded sense of security in many Floridians, $1 million in donations to the Convention’s disaster relief fund illustrates the faith of God’s children in the weather-beaten state.

At least a half dozen Southern Baptist mobile feeding units are moving into place to provide hot meals to Central Florida residents battered by Hurricane Jeanne, the fourth hurricane to hit in the state in the past six weeks and the second to slice across the Space Coast area.

Hurricane Jeanne’s movement across the Caribbean generated torrential rains in Haiti resulting in devastating flooding in the Gonaives region which has left more than 1,100 dead, 1,250 missing and made 250,000 homeless.
