Volunteers Being Enlisted

A variety of volunteer needs exist as Florida Baptists respond to four different recovery fronts:

Recovery efforts in Southwest Florida to assist individuals and churches affected by Hurricane Charley have resumed. A plan of action is underway to assist in the repair of private homes that were uninsured. Also a repair and financial assistance program is in place to assist Florida Baptist churches to get their facilities back to normal. Campers on Mission volunteers are expected to take the lead in the rebuilding effort. However there is a need for general construction volunteers who should contact Hal Burke, the volunteer coordinator in Sarasota at (941) 360-0321.

Along Florida’s Southeast coast recovery efforts have begun focused upon debris clean-up and assisting in repair of uninsured private homes and church facilities. To facilitate the coordination of volunteers in the three associations along the east coast, volunteer assignments are being handled by the respective association. Volunteers are being requested to contact the respective association office:

Brevard (321) 631-0820 – needs chainsaw crews and roofing teams;
Treasure Coast (772) 464-5175 – needs general volunteers.

Persons interested in serving as volunteers in the response effort in central Florida as well as the Ivan response in the Panhandle should contact the Florida Baptist Men's Department at 1-800-226-8584, extension 3121. This office will coordinate volunteers needed in the area from Melbourne South and East to Orlando to Fort Meade.

Please note: volunteers do not require any special training, only the desire to assist in clean-up efforts.

Financial Contributions being Received
    Financial contributions to relief efforts may be sent to the Florida Baptist Convention, 1230 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207.

Checks should be made payable to the Florida Baptist Convention and noted for designation to Hurricane Relief.
