Feb. 29, 2008
PENSACOLA (FBC)— Doris Passmore, wife of retired State Evangelism Director Jerry Passmore, died Feb. 27 in Pensacola after an extended illness. She was 74.
Passmore worked alongside her husband as he served churches in Alabama and Florida, including Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola from 1972-1989 and West Hillsborough Baptist Church in Tampa from 1964-1969. He served as director of the Florida Baptist Convention’s Evangelism Division from 1989-2001.
Serving in children’s church and Bible drills at Olive, Passmore touched the lives of many in the congregation. Of the individuals she taught, many were won to a personal knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ by her Christian witness.
In 2000, she was awarded the Clyde Merrill Maguire Award for outstanding service by the Florida Conference of Baptist Ministers’ Wives. That award is presented annually to a ministers’ wife who exhibits a keen sense of understanding, love, duty and dedication throughout her service as a minister’s wife.
Born in Winston Salem, N.C., on April 9, 1933, Passmore was a graduate of the Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta and served on their faculty in New Orleans for two years.
Passmore is survived by her husband of 50 years, and three children; Teresa Hayden of Andalusia, Ala.; Tim Passmore, pastor of Woodland Baptist Church in Bradenton; and Tina Kimbro, director of the preschool and children’s ministry at New Port Richey First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Feb. 29 at Olive Baptist Church with Ted Traylor and John Sullivan officiating.
