ANNIVERSARY OBSERVANCE COMMITTEE

 


The 150th Anniversary Committee, appointed by the State Board of Missions, is comprised of laity, church staff, association leadership and representatives of state convention agencies. Many of the members have been Florida Baptists most of their lives—others have made significant contributions toward the growth and diversity of the state convention as it is today. All have faithfully served Florida Baptists through the years.

At-large members include Chairman Jim Henry, pastor, First Baptist Church, Orlando; Vice-chair Betty Jean Billingsley, member, Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, Hollywood; Renaud Balzora, member, Emmanuas Haitian Baptist Church, Pompano Beach; Ray Carvajal, Pastor, Nuevo Amanecer Baptist Church, Miami; Clysta de Armas, member, Port Charlotte Spanish Baptist Church, Port Charlotte; Bill Floyd, pastor, First Baptist Church, Jasper; and James Fortinberry, retired director of missions, Greater Orlando Association.

Other members include: Lady Ham, member, First Baptist Church at the Mall, Lakeland; Lewis Lampley, member, Southside Tabernacle Baptist Church, St. Petersburg; Liz Traylor, member, Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola; Susan Warren, member, First Baptist Church, Brandon; Jerry Vines, pastor, First Baptist Church, Jacksonville; and Tommy Watson, pastor, West Kendall Baptist Church, Miami.

Representatives of the Florida Baptist Historical Society include chairman R. C. Hammack, member, First Baptist Church, Graceville; Toni Clevenger, member, First Baptist Church, Pensacola; and Patricia Parks, member, First Baptist Church, Jasper.

Members from the State Convention's Committee on Order of Business include: Jose Canes, pastor, Southside Hispana Baptist Church, Sarasota; James R. Davis, pastor, Oakgrove Baptist Church, Wauchula; Linda Gregory, church and community director, Seminole Association, Sanford; Gary E. Laird, pastor, Avalon Baptist Church, Milton; Stan Lewis, associate pastor, Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola; Joe H. Plott, pastor, First Baptist Church, Mary Esther; George A. Price, pastor, St. Matthews Baptist Church, Jacksonville; and John M. Wright, pastor, First Baptist Church, Altamonte Springs.

Representatives of State Convention agencies include: Charles Hodges, retired president, Florida Baptist Children's Homes; Thomas A. Kinchen, president, The Baptist College of Florida; Eddie McClelland, president, Florida Baptist Financial Services; and James A. Smith, executive editor, Florida Baptist Witness.

Representing the Florida Women's Missionary Union is former state president Helen Yates, member, Northside Baptist Church, Apopka.
