“Many people have tried to define the Lay Renewal Weekend (now called the Awakening weekend) which is the first step of the Church Renewal Journey. It is very difficult to fully explain, for words alone cannot describe such a personal experience. In 2007, the Holy Spirit changed my life during an Awakening weekend. Ordinary people from other churches came to our church and gave testimonies about where they were in their walk with God; some were on a mountain top and some were in a valley. I learned that I was just like other ordinary Christians. As I participated in the other CRJ weekends, I learned that God has called all of His children “into ministry” (but not all as pastors) and those he calls He equips. He did not save me to sit on a pew. In a Church Renewal Weekend, the local church begins to discover what they have in Christ and in each other, and they begin to celebrate and share. The Church Renewal Journey reveals to Christians how the Lord has created us to serve Him. The thrill, the Joy and the satisfaction I have experienced as the result of being obedient to Him since that time still blows me away.”

“As a pastor, I am constantly receiving
information about many good opportunities that promise to enhance the life of our church. While these books, conferences, and seminars might help, I have found nothing that compares to the hands-on effectiveness of the Lay Renewal Weekend. From beginning to end, our congregation came together and grew in their love for Christ and each other. I am thankful for Terry Land and the LRW team members for their willingness to serve in this way.”

"At New Life we have conducted revivals, gone on retreats, and embarked in other methods to encourage our people, but the Lay Renewal weekends we experienced had more of a lasting impact than anything else we've done. The visiting teams, small groups, fellowships, and corporate gatherings provided an intimacy that enhanced the unity of our church and the spiritual lives of our people. I would highly recommend all churches have the Lay Renewal experience."

The Church Renewal Journey consists of five separate weekends, each designed to enhance the walk and ministry of the individual Christian and the local church. Each Weekend can stand alone or act as part of a series of Weekends.
In each Weekend, the church’s lay people work in a season of Preparation. Then, when the Weekend arrives, a team of lay people come at their own expense to testify about how God has worked in their lives and in the lives of many across our land. They seek to enhance the ministry of that local church, seeking the Lord for a fresh work in that church during that Weekend.
Church Renewal Weekends…
The Lay Renewal Weekend is often the first Weekend a local church chooses. The weekend focuses on one’s personal love and surrender to the Lord Jesus. When each person ‘wakes up’ to see that Christ wants a growing relationship with each person and has a place of “ministry” for each person, churches come alive. Churches become family. Often those on the sidelines renew their surrender to the Lord and His will and the faithful renew their hearts to a new level of love and ministry.
“And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all…”
- 1 Thessalonians 3:12
The Equipping Weekend focuses on the “nuts and bolts” of ministry God’s way with God’s equipping. Many believers will discover their spiritual gifts and see how they “fit” into the Body of Christ. Discovering how God places each in His work helps involve more believers in practical ministries and enhances evangelism, discipleship, and ministry throughout the community.
“Now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased…
You are the body of Christ, and members individually.” - 1 Corinthians 12:18, 27
The Marketplace Evangelism Weekend is an application of the Awakening and Equipping steps and a continuation of the Journey. Church members are encouraged to Prayer Walk their marketplace or school, asking God how He may want to work through them outside the church walls. Those who commit to God’s calling may be commissioned by their pastor and church body and sent back into their marketplace, school or wherever God has placed them. However, they now go as commissioned missionaries from His church to witness and minister in their unique giftedness.
The Prayer /Empowering Weekend looks at God’s ways in prayer, how He works, and how He calls His children to come before Him in prayer. God works to make prayer the priority Jesus made it. Participants will be encouraged and trained in biblical prayer that focuses on kingdom priorities.
“Men always ought to pray and not
lose heart.” - Luke 18:1
The Sending Weekend opens eyes to the mission field starting at home, then going across the street and around the world. As a result of this Weekend, many will realize their mission field is where God has planted them now, ready to follow the Acts 1:8 strategy, reaching out into the lostness of their Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
“Go…Make disciples of all the nations… I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20
