The Communications Office is assigned the task of telling the story of Florida Baptists as they work cooperatively to evangelize, start new churches and grow healthy churches. This task is accomplished through a service of news and information and by providing counsel and promotion assistance to the convention’s program staff. The products of these tasks are reflected in news stories, brochures, promotional campaigns and advertising copy used in a variety of mediums.
The office produces Florida Baptist Missions, an eight-page full-color newspaper that highlights the Cooperative Program and features Florida Baptist congregations and individuals across the state serving on mission in their communities and in the world.
Working in cooperation with the staff of the Florida Baptist Witness, each year the department produces nearly 200 news, feature and promotion stories, provides hundreds of photographs and promotes the Cooperative Program and Convention ministries for the bi-monthly news publication.
As the Convention spokesperson, the department answers inquiries from secular media outlets, responds to phone calls and hosts news outlets in the press room at the Florida Baptist State Convention; and maintains professional relationships with religion editors of metropolitan newspapers inFlorida.
Each year the department oversees the production of the Maguire State Mission Offering campaign, in cooperation with the Public Relations Division, in four languages which raises more than a $1 million per year for statewide missions. The department also writes and produces annually materials for the Cooperative Program in three languages and the Hunger Awareness Offering campaign.
The Communications Department is part of the Florida Baptists Convention’s website management team working as a liaison between the webservant and the program departments.
