Florida Baptists can serve in a variety of ways in our state. For more information regarding projects, click on the specific area title or use the contact information listed with each area: Construction Projects, Long-Term Needs, and Short-Term Projects.
Construction Projects Volunteers provide a valuable resource for building and remodeling
facilities for mission churches or small churches that cannot
afford to hire a contractor. They provide skilled services in
drawing up preliminary building plans, framing, drywall, roofing,
electrical, plumbing, landscaping, carpentry, painting, and
other tasks.
It is vital that enough lead-time is given to recruit people
with the right skills for the right time. A consultant is available
to counsel churches that plan to utilize volunteers.
See the updated list of construction projects underway.
If you want to volunteer for a project, or if you are interested
in getting volunteers for a construction project, contact Fritz
Wilson, Partnership Missions Department, at 1-800-226-8584,
ext. 3121.
Long Term Needs Occasionally,
a ministry or mission will need long-term volunteers to fill
a specific position. These volunteers serve four months to two
years, or longer. The type of request varies from church staff
(including pastors and church planters), to church strengtheners
who work alongside the pastor, to leaders of various ministries.
In Florida, over 100 people are serving in this capacity right
now! Many of them are on retirement income; some of them work
a secular job for income while working as a volunteer for 20
hours a week or more. Many others, generally younger individuals,
will raise their own funds through a network of ministry partners.
Many of them receive some assistance from their fields of service.
If you want to volunteer, or to request a volunteer, call Dennis
Wilbanks, Partnership Missions Department, 1-800-226-8584,
Ext. 3134.
Short Term Projects (Youth/Adult)
Each year, hundreds of mission youth groups and adult mission
teams from all over the nation come to Florida to serve in a
wide variety of mission settings. The type of work includes
Vacation Bible School, Backyard Bible Clubs, Resort Ministry,
Sports Clinics, Block Parties, Construction Projects, Sand and
Surf Clubs, and Inner City Ministries.
The mission teams are responsible for their own expenses, including
lodging arrangements, though many of the missions will allow
them to stay at the church overnight. In the resort areas, discounted
motel rooms are available.
