I don’t mind telling you . . .
During the past few weeks, I have shared with you some columns written by my friend Sumner Wemp as he recalls some of his witnessing experiences. They are great reminders of the opportunities we have to make eternal differences in lives of people we come in contact with everyday. In a recent column he wrote:
“Christmas time is such a great time to share the gospel. What am I saying? Any time is a great time to share the gospel. Right?
They come to your door. Melvin delivered a package to us. I thanked him and gave him a gospel tract. What a great tool to plant the seed of the gospel. They then have a chance to go to heaven.
Graciously, I asked, ‘Melvin, do you know for sure you are going to heaven?’ He had a name tag and I have found it is good to call people by their name. Also, I have found people usually respond the same way we approach them. If we are gracious, they will be gracious. He replied, ‘I hope so.’
My reply to such a statement is, ‘Suppose you ask me, Sumner, are you married?’ and I reply, ‘I hope so.’ Almost always, people catch on to that comparison.
Use the cube. At our door we keep an EvangeCube to share the gospel with people. ‘Melvin,’ I said ‘have you ever seen this cube?’ Of course most have not and it stirs their curiosity.
They hear and see the gospel. It was beautiful, as I shared the gospel, to see how God opened the eyes of his understanding. God gave him repentance to acknowledge the truth (2 Tim. 2:25). Gladly he prayed with me to receive the Lord Jesus as his Savior.
His face glowed. When he looked up his face just glowed and he thanked me over and over for telling him how to be saved.
‘The harvest is plenteous.’ Let's pick the fruit that God has ready. Don't let others get in on the privilege and joy and you miss out. . . Get in on it yourself!”
