The best news in all the world

This continues a series of articles written by my friend Sumner Wemp. I am reprinting them because I could not have said it better. I hope they bless you as much as they do me.

Driving late into the night, I pulled into a convenience store at two a.m. in the middle of nowhere. No one was in the store except the manager. While drinking a Dr. Pepper, we talked and I felt the urge to share the gospel. Tracts are one of my favorite ways to open the door to witnessing.

As I handed him a gospel tract, I said, "May I give you something good to read. It tells you how to know for sure you are going to heaven." I love to watch people’s faces and see their expression when they hear this. I continued, "Kind sir, do you know for sure you are going to heaven one day."

"No sir," he said, "I am not a Christian."

My approach is to say, "We are all in the same boat, we have all done wrong, we have all sinned, haven't we?" The store manager readily admitted he, too, had sinned. I have never had one person not admit they have sinned too, when I say it like that.

I continued, "God loves you and me. He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to suffer and die on the cross for our sins. He paid the debt in full, rose again and was seen by hundreds of people."

That dear people is the gospel and it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes that to get them to heaven too. He assured me he understood it.

When I asked if he would receive the Lord Jesus as his Savior too, he said, "I think it is time I did."

He prayed out loud with me to receive the Lord Jesus and now knew he was going to heaven. Then he said, "Wait until I get home and tell me wife I got saved tonight. My wife is a Christian and goes to a Baptist church and has been begging me for fifteen years to get saved."

How I would love to have been there when he told her! Wouldn't you?

Don't you wish someone would lead your loved one to Christ where ever they are?

We have the best news in all the world and it is the best keep secret in all the world. Let's obey God and tell this good news to every creature we have that couple of minutes with them. Make sense?
