Promo for “Just Give Me Jesus”

Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, is coming to Jacksonville to lead a “Just Give Me Jesus” conference on April 24-25, 2009. This is good news for North Florida! Anne is a gifted Bible teacher and this will be one of the finest events for women in our area.

Ginger Soud, a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville and former president of the Jacksonville City Council, is leading and organizing this event which will be held in the Veterans Memorial Arena. You may recall, she also chaired the very successful Billy Graham Crusade in Jacksonville in year 2000.

For over a year, Mrs. Soud and a group of Jacksonville-area women have been seeking God’s will through prayer in anticipation of the event. The group gathered more than 80 letters from Jacksonville-area pastors, civic leaders and political leaders encouraging the daughter of evangelist Billy Graham to bring her conference to the First Coast.

I am very supportive of this effort and believe its impact on Florida’s First Coast will be far-reaching.

As you would imagine a conference of this size cannot be successful without planning and volunteers. Persons interested in serving as volunteers are invited to attend a planning meeting June 3 at 7:15 a.m. in the dining room at First Baptist Church, 124 West Ashley St., Jacksonville. For directions to the church go to www.fbcjax.com.

You may also want to put two kickoff events on your calendar. On Aug. 5, Southern Baptist author Henry Blackaby will lead a seminar for pastors and church staff in the morning. Then Anne Graham Lotz will speak to women during the evening. Times and locations have not been finalized for this event.

It is good for all Christian believers in North Florida to embrace this meeting. Our women serve critical roles in the life of our community and our families. When homes are being destroyed; lives are being wrecked; morality is at a low; ethics are being scoffed at and everyone is doing that which is right in their own sight, we need a word from God. Let’s pray and support the efforts and these women and this meeting.
