BRANDON (FBC)—With nearly 72 percent of Southern Baptist churches plateaued or declining, the North American Mission Board and Florida Baptist Convention are teaming up to provide a one-day experience intended to equip pastors with tools to infuse new life in their congregations.
The “Send>North America” Church Growth and Revitalization Conference will feature past Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt as keynote speaker when it meets Jan. 29 at First Baptist Church in Brandon.
“This is all about Kingdom partnerships and effective processes that grow Kingdom leaders and serves them to become and do all that God intends for the churches,” said Emanuel Roque, strategist for the Leadership Ministries team at the Florida Baptist Convention.
Church leaders in attendance will be encouraged, challenged and equipped, he promised.
“If they come, [churches] will be encouraged in today’s ministry environment to know that God wants to use their church and ministry,” Roque said. “They will also receive practical conference help from experienced national leaders and network with church leaders who are doing effective ministry in different ways.”
Noting Southern Baptists “share a desire to penetrate lostness in North America,” NAMB president Kevin Ezell said, “One key to doing that is starting new churches.”
“But at the same time we lose almost 900 churches a year,” Ezell said. “This simply cannot continue if we are to truly impact lostness in North America.”
Ezell said the meeting will offer Florida Baptists “serious tools and opportunities to help strengthen and revitalize churches in the state.”
Prior to the meeting, the Convention’s Church Leadership Development group will host a networking session designed to share church growth and health ideas with key leaders.
The “Shaping the Future Conversation of Church Health and Revitalization in Florida” event will begin at 5 p.m., Mon., Jan. 28 at First Baptist.
There is no cost for this dinner meeting. To attend, register by Jan. 18 by emailing Lori Morgan at email@example.com or calling Morgan at 800-226-8584, ext. 3018; or 904-596-3018.
