Staff Mission Statement

Changing the world, one light at a time.

Counselor's life gains purpose and passion

"When I came to camp I knew something was different. The feelings I felt were like none I had felt. I felt a true sense of belonging… like this is what I was intended to do. That sense hasn’t changed in eight years. Now as a counselor, I feel that sense every time I go back. Not because it’s the easiest job, and not even because of the life-long friends I’ve made. The spirit of God and the lives He changes while at camp—that gives me this feeling. I can honestly say that while working at camp, the Lord has given me purpose and passion. I now know that one of the purposes God has for my life is to invest in peoples' lives through camping. This purpose became so real in my life that in college I changed my major to take more classes to prepare me for this lifelong pursuit. Through camp I have acquired a passion for the lost and outcasts of this world. I look at people differently now. My heart breaks for these people. There’s a big dark world out there with a lot of lost and hurting people, but if I’ve learned anything through camp, it‘s that together we can change the world—one light at a time." —Kristen Picus

"My last year as a camper, being the oldest camper there, was more memorable and rewarding than I ever thought possible. God was able to speak to me and teach me things through the use of counselors and others. He taught me more in that one week, where I was forced to be quiet and listen to His word, than I could ever imagine and I am so grateful for that experience." —Monet
