God is not boring, but exciting, real and very interested in me!
"As the daughter of a pastor, I grew up in church. Everyone knew where I could be found on Sundays. By the time I was in high school, I had become complacent about God and church. I thought I knew all the answers and that God was for a lack of a better word, boring. My parents soon noticed my change in attitude. They sent me to Camp WorldLight, but I was not very happy about being sent away from home for part of my summer.
"That all changed, though, the moment we drove to camp. I don’t think I can put into words what it felt like, but I knew that this camp was different. Through all the different camp activities, what I had previously thought about God was shattered—my God, the Sovereign Star-Maker, was not boring, but exciting, real, alive and very interested in me.
"I will never forget my first summer. From playing at the lake to talking with my counselors, I knew I was loved. I was loved by the counselors, my cabin mates and most importantly—God. I remember thinking as we left camp, that I was leaving a newly-found home away from home. Camp changed my life forever. At camp I rededicated my life to serving Christ and was called to missions. I have worked at camp for three summers. On the third summer I was recruited to work as a camp counselor and have been a part of the Camp WorldLight staff ever since. And at the beginning of each summer, when I drive onto the camp grounds, it feels like I am coming home." —Mindy
Camp was an amazing impact on my spiritual growth and has become part of my life
"One of the most meaningful things I learned shortly after accepting Christ into my life, was how many people in the world do not know about Jesus, and what he did for them. I learned this from Camp WorldLight, a summer camp the girls in my church attended each year. After hearing stories of how God impacted peoples’ lives and why missions are so important, one summer it all came together.
"Throughout the week, I had been discovering a longing to go and tell the people who don’t know Christ, about His love for them. I knew God had a plan for me, and I knew if I were willing he would take me to tell people about him. During camp, I made the decision to become a missionary, whether it meant going overseas or staying at home.
"Looking back now, it was much more than a summer camp, it was an amazing impact on my spiritual growth, and has become part of my life and my passion. I now hope that I have been able to bless other girls’ lives just as mine was, through serving as a counselor at Camp WorldLight." —Meredyth
