HISTORY > MEET THE DIRECTOR

Mission

Camp WorldLight exists to enable campers to experience Christ through the uniqueness of the camp setting, and to respond to His unique, individual plan for them to radically impact their world with the Good News of His gospel.

Staff Mission Statement:
Changing the world, one light at a time.

History

For more than 60 years, CampWorldLight has inspired girls of all ages to find their own purpose in God’s mission. For many that meant accepting Christ as Lord and Savior; for others it is being called as missionaries and mission leaders.

Through these years, Camp WorldLight, formerly known as Florida WMU Camp, has maintained a tradition of touching hearts and changing lives.

Ruth Bagwell, Florida WMU Camp Director from 1964-1983, once shared the critical nature of Florida Baptists’ camping program with her counselors. “In your hands, you hold the treasure of a priceless relationship: the friendship and confidence of young girls. It is a fragile trust…and it is fraught with peril…and opportunity.” This pearl of wisdom still holds meaning today.

Today, several dozen camp alumni are now serving as missionaries across the world.

Camp WorldLight is a program of the Women’s Missions and Ministries Department of the Florida Baptist Convention and is supported by the Maguire State Mission Offering.

Meet the Director

Camp Director Anne Wilson has led Camp WorldLight since the summer of 2006, having served on staff since the summer of 1994. In her roles at Camp WorldLight, she has served as a cabin counselor, recreation director and the assistant camp director, so she knows first-hand how Camp WorldLight can change a life.

“Camp WorldLight is an amazing place to meet new friends, missionaries and staff who really care about the campers. They have the opportunity to swim in the pool and the lake, go on virtual visits to several other countries and be a part of Bible stories in a whole new way.

“But more than anything else, they will learn their Heavenly Father loves them passionately and is always there for them. And we want to show them the people in the world that have never had the opportunity to hear God’s love but desperately need to know.”

Anne earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and a master in counseling from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

She is married to Trey Wilson, a head golf professional at a local country club.

"Camp is a blast. The friends you make and the games you play are swell, but more than all, it is a place where God undoubtedly speaks.

"Camp was my time to be re-lifted and re-fueled. The activities were fun, but the purpose of sharing God's Word was never forgotten, not even for one moment during all of camp. As a camper, I was challenged, but always encouraged.

"I was a camper from the age of eleven to seventeen and never once returned home the same person as I left." —Monet
